Crossroads

Dreaming

I am walking along Chestnut Avenue, further up from my house, with Ant. He looks up into a tree and spots a bird’s nest; it has whitish fluff coming out of the bottom. Ant goes over to it; I don’t know what he’s going to do; this can’t be part of his job. He removes the adult birds from the nest and puts them in the tree; the babies don’t need the parents there the whole time.

We start watching a nature documentary on a TV, still in the street. It is fascinating, and when it finishes it is 3.30pm, and I’m late for picking the girls up. I don’t need to worry though as a car pulls up with the girls inside; someone has collected them from school but has left Annie with the teachers until I arrive to get her. I know she’ll be fine and the teachers will love playing with her.

I get into the car and reverse up the road, which now looks a bit like a road in Redbrook – more crowded with cars and people. There are schoolchildren around, and I don’t want to hit any of them. I keep going and am almost where I need to be when I hit a car on my left. I need to straighten up and end up driving forward all the way back to where I started.

I am at a crossroads, and Ant says something about getting nowhere and being back where I started. I’m still to collect Annie from school, and it’s getting later, already 3.40pm. I’m not sure how to get to where I need to be, although I feel very drawn to go to the right.
