Shed

Dreaming

It is the day before Annie’s birthday party. All of her presents are wrapped, and I’m making a list of what I have to do in the morning before her party, which is after school. On the list, I write: buy food, buy pink crepe paper and gold paper. There is a shed in the garden on the left; the shed is divided in half. The left half is empty, so I am going to cover the outside walls in the pink crepe paper and hold the party inside.

I wake up on her birthday, but I don’t see Annie. I get my list and go out to the shed. I think I have already been shopping and got what I need. Outside the shed door, I can hear music; I wonder if someone is in there. Opening the door, I see the light has been left on and music playing. On the left is a bed. I realise Josh has been in here, and he’s left everything on, as he would have left in the middle of the night when it was dark – he would have been scared. I need him to move the bed back into the house (it looks like the house and garden at Church Lane) for the party.  There is a load of stuff on the bed, noticeably clothes. I start to move them and pull back the duvet. I see a pair of feet, so I look under the rest of the blankets. Josh is asleep there and is naked. I hadn’t seen a body shape in the bed earlier; it looked empty. Josh wakes and asks what is on his bum. I feel it; it is a spot. I tell him he needs to move the bed, but then I realise that it would be okay for people to sit on, and I could get some beanbags too.

I hear a voice over an intercom asking if everything is okay. I find it by a sink. I say that all is fine and that I’ve cleaned everything. I notice the sink is quite dirty, but I’m not bothered by it. I am pregnant and due in June. I think I could have timed it better so I would have more time between birthdays to save up.
