I need to record the truth about my experiences of – and with – men. Not what my mum’s words have taught me to believe, but what I actually experienced, and felt.
I need to deal with my Dad first. He was the man that she hated the most. Never in my life have I heard her say a good word about him, not once. He has been called every name you can think of. He’s been accused of so many things, none of which I know to be true. For years, I ignored the feelings I had about my Dad and only believed what she told me.
This is my Dad:
- A hardworking man
- Provider for his family
- Relaxed
- Easygoing
- Funny
- Loud
- Over the top
- Comfortable in his own skin
- Approachable
- Intuitive
- Caring
- Supportive
- Friendly
- Happy
- Warm
- Easy to talk to
- Great sense of humour
- Great fun to be around
- Clever
- Diligent
- Committed to his personal growth
- Brave
- Unafraid to talk to his children about personal things
- Would drop everything if we needed him
- Generous with money
