Dreaming
I am in the living room. There are balls of wool unravelled by my feet, all different colours, some wrapped around my ankles. I think the kids have been playing with them, but there is wool everywhere. The doorbell rings; I am concerned as I don’t want anyone to come round and see the mess everywhere.
I answer the door to find my cousin standing there. I keep looking back to make sure Jasper isn’t about to run out; I keep the door just slightly ajar. I use Jasper as an excuse, as I don’t want anyone to come in. I look up the hall again, then back at the door; it has blown shut, and my cousin is peering through the glass. I open it slightly; he says he missed me, that we haven’t spent any time together since we were kids, and he’d like to spend time with me.
I am standing outside the front of the house with Tom. I am telling him about my cousin and trying to explain which one, but I can’t remember his name. I tell him it’s the one that looks most like my Uncle Hugh. As I say it, I look up and see Hugh sitting on a pillar on the wall by the house. I thought he was dead. Tom still can’t work out who, so I tell him that he’s overthinking it and if he stops, he’ll realise who it was. My cousin looked like Levi Burnett.
