Rosie had a birthday party today. She’d invited seven friends for a swim and sleepover.
Unfortunately, when we arrived at the pool, Tom announced he wouldn’t be staying to help. Instead, he went off to meet my dad for lunch, leaving me to supervise seven children aged eight to ten – some of whom can’t swim – and Annie, who he refused to take with him because “she’d only cry.” Thankfully, Josh stepped in to help.
After swimming, the children all came back to ours for food and the sleepover. Tom picked up a McDonald’s for them, and then announced there was no point in him “hanging around getting in the way,” and went to the pub for the evening.
I had to push my hurt and anger aside, put on a happy face, and focus on making the night fun for Rosie.
The truth is, Tom put every single one of those children in a dangerous position today.
If something had happened to even one of them, I’d never have been able to cope with an emergency while managing all the others – not even with Josh’s help.
I can’t believe how low he can stoop for his own self-serving needs.
