Grandad

Dreaming

I am in a fancy dress shop. I’m trying to remember what it is I need to buy a costume for. The person I am with tells me I need a grass skirt for Patsy’s party, but I say I need something else as well. I can’t remember what.

I am in a school playground with Annie and her friends; Annie looks really ill. She has really heavy, red eyes and a rash on her face. I feel her head; she is roasting hot. I talk to Mrs Jeffery and tell her I think Annie is ill. She goes over to Annie, looks at her and says it’s slapped cheek. I tell her it’s not as that rash went, and this one looks different.

I am in a hospital waiting with someone who is about to have an operation. She is being quite impatient, especially when a man goes in before her who has been waiting less time. She gets up off her bed just as a group of really old men come into the room; they are with a woman, their carer. The person I am with is now one of my sisters; I think Abi. One of the old men greets her; I look up and see it is my Grandad. He recognises me and is overjoyed to see me, as I am him. I have a blue towel on my head and think he will recognise me more if I remove it, which I do. I feel so much love for my Grandad. I ask him what he is doing here. He tells me they’re all just looking around. We talk for a little while, and then he starts to walk away and up some stairs. I call out for him to stay, but he keeps walking; as he does, he starts to become invisible. Eventually, I shout out, ‘I love you, Grandad ’, and he disappears through a wall.

Responding

I woke up feeling really emotional and teary; my dream felt so real, like a visit from my Grandad rather than a dream.
