Severed

Dreaming

I am at the register office in Linton. I am there to collect some papers/document. The cost is £68. The person at the desk isn’t sure this is right but tells me they will be ready later that afternoon. I look at the paper in my hand; it actually says £12. I tell the person, and they say that makes more sense as they thought £68 was too much. They ask me to come back later. A man is with us; we don’t know him. This man has had his finger severed, and we have to go back over his steps to see if we can find it. We walk back along Queen Street looking at the ground all the way along. I know instinctively that it will be right at the back by the building he came out of. As we approach the building, we start to see objects that could be his finger, but they’re not. Once we are at the building, I think we will have to look harder as there is stuff all around, but actually I spot the finger fairly quickly. I look at it and can clearly see the fingernail, so I’m certain it is a finger. It is the next day; I forgot to go back yesterday afternoon for the document, so I go in now. I pay the £12, which I can’t really afford. A male assistant serves me.

I am at the house in Church Lane with my mum, my children and my sisters. There is an older lady there who might be my auntie, but I’m not sure of that. I can hear her shouting a lot. Mum seems really angry and asks me if I heard what she just said. I know Mum wants me to go outside and deal with her. I go out of the back door and find this lady by a side door, at the side of the house. I feel angry and ask if she shouted at my children. I get the impression that she is firm and strict but means no harm. I go back into the house; the living room is downstairs, but in this house that’s unusual and should be upstairs. I think we should keep it this way, although the room isn’t as big.

Amelia, Megan, I and someone else are at the theatre to see a pantomime. We watch a small amount of it before the pause for the time to buy snacks. The snacks are being served on the level I am on. I am sitting right at the back of the theatre, yet as there aren’t that many people before me, I know I’ll get served fairly quickly. I join the queue feeling pleased with myself that I’m in the queue early so I won’t have to wait too long. As I get closer to being served, I can see Izzy; she is working on the snacks counter. I get almost to the front of the queue and take a seat in the red plush chairs next to the counter and the stage. I can see chips being cooked and decide this is what I will buy as we haven’t eaten yet. Just before my turn, I look down the aisle and see a very fat man pushing a very fat woman in a wheelchair. They are coming this way. Izzy tells me they will be sitting where I am, so I get up and move to the counter. Izzy is sitting in one of four chairs; the one Izzy is in is next to the fat people. The people really smell, so I tell Izzy there’s a seat for her at the back with us. She is grateful for this. I place my order at the counter. I want four portions of chips; they bring out 5. I was sure I only needed four, but now I’m not certain. I take the food and head back to my seat. I place the food on a table; instead of chips, there are snacks such as cheese and pineapple, and crisps. There is a small boy eating our food; he has come out of the toilet, which is next to our seats. He quickly leaves. I return to the counter for our drinks and place these on the table also – four hot chocolates that, when I taste them, aren’t very hot at all. Just about warm. None of us has eaten yet that day, and I know this isn’t enough food.

We are driving back through Northchester. I see Izzy turn left into Retby. I thought she was still supposed to be working, but she is on a break.
