Dreaming
I am living at Church Lane, but this time it belongs to me. It is the summer. Abi lives with me, and Izzy lives next door. Abi comes into the front living room; she is dressed smartly. I ask her where she is going; she tells me to a meeting, and she goes, leaving me to look after her two children, both girls. I am really annoyed as she hadn’t even asked me if I would. Dad appears, and I tell him what Abi did. I am sitting on the steps outside the house, at the back. Ricky and Liam are playing in the garden. Liam needs a poo, so Izzy calls him over. Instead of taking him indoors, she lets him do it in my garden on the path. I tell her not to, but she ignores me and then lets Ricky do the same. I am so angry, but instead of telling her, I go indoors and tell Dad again. I get some kitchen paper and take it out to Izzy and ask her to clean it up, which she has already done. It is really hot, and the garden has become a beach; there are people everywhere. Greg is on the beach carrying a baby girl; she is asleep. He sits in a deckchair with the baby lying on his stomach. He explains that it is his friend’s baby and no one else can get her to sleep except him; he is being smug about it. The baby has ginger hair and eyebrows, and I am worried that she will get sunburnt or too hot. She wakes and looks about two years old. She says, “Where’s my mummy?” and is upset. I take her from Greg and play with her and tell her where her mummy is. Greg takes her from me, and she snuggles into him.
I am in a foreign country. Me and four other females are going to perform a dance for everyone, but there is no one watching. Our dance takes place in a swimming pool. The water is there one minute but gone the next. I don’t know the dance and am trying to copy the woman to my right. One of the women is on the side of the pool dancing; she and the others have microphones, but I don’t. We finish our dance, and the water is all gone. I start to dance on my own and think I’m really good. A young man stands in front of us; he is doing the next dance – he is naked. Towards the end of his dance, a fat man gets in the pool; he stands in front of me so I dance for him erotically. The pool becomes a nightclub. Marissa is on the dance floor. She has had a glass of wine; she spins around and then collapses into her husband’s arms. I go and check that she is ok; she is very drunk and lying on her husband. I offer to stay with her while he gets the car, but she starts to cry and begs him not to leave her. He kisses the nape of her neck. I offer to get the car for him, but I have been drinking so I can’t. Instead, I offer to call them a taxi; they agree. Her husband gives me £25 for being kind. I don’t want it and am annoyed about it. I give it back. I ask where I should tell the taxi to take them; they say from Blackrock to Penmarlow. I go out of the club with a woman. There is a main road with taxis coming and going; they are all driving erratically. We cross the road, which is mainly beige and sandy coloured. I say that it looks like Iraq, and the woman agrees. We look up to see a weather vane on the top of walls. They are everywhere and remind me of war – ugly and imposing.
I am in Church Lane in the alley at the side of the house. I am having to fight a dragon/monster. I am trying to stop it from coming inside the house. I have an axe that has a light attachment. There are two of me, and two axes – one red and one blue. One of me tells the other of me that I have to kill the dragon. I take the blue axe and go in through the front door. I turn and make sure it is locked behind me so the dragon can’t get in. I walk along the dark corridor using the light on the axe. Once I get in the kitchen, I turn the torch off. I can hear the dragon, and I know I will have to sneak up behind it and put the axe in the back of it. I unlock the back door and feel very, very scared. I am petrified. My heart is pounding.
